Cal Crutchlow Yamaha revealed weaknesses

Jorge Lorenzo has won the last two races in the premier class world championship MotoGP, in the lead from start to finish, without giving anyone a chance and get to it.

After the victory at Mugello Factory Yamaha Racing rider assured that won the race in the first corner, ottormozivshis aggressively at the first corner and ahead of Dani Pedrosa. It was the second race in a row, in which Jorge took the initiative right from the start.

In fact, all three wins this season, Lorenzo won by one and the same plan:
Stay in the lead at the first corner
Immediately come forward
Go accurately and as quickly as possible during the race
When Jorge Lorenzo is in the first position, then he has no rivals, because at the moment no one else is able to drive the whole race at full speed, but him. All this you can find a logical explanation, considering approaches to work with motorcycles of two giant manufacturers such as Honda and Yamaha.

Honda is focusing on engine power and acceleration. The purpose of HRC engineers is to build a bike that perfectly brakes and accelerates: the stability under braking allows the pilot ottormazhivatsya as late as possible, and then as best you can accelerate to fly straight past the end of their rivals. In Yamaha emphasis on control and maneuverability. The main objective is to develop a bike that you can control in any situation and just how it may be easier to manage.

Two completely different approaches in these instructions means that Yamaha and Honda also have different uses and tires. Yamaha can keep for a long time in high speed cornering, and thus squeezes the maximum tire from Bridgestone, using the edge of the tires. Honda also uses a large extent the bulk of the tire, which is 1-2 cm from the edge.

The difference in the approaches to the development of motorcycles evident in completely different styles of flying. The trajectory of Jorge Lorenzo smoothly and smooth. At the same time, Dani Pedrosa and Marc Márquez very hard to enter into the turn, as the need to quickly ottormozitsya, and then as soon as possible to speed up, so their path is much tougher.

All of this means that each bike can be an advantage on different paths, depending on the tires brought by Bridgestone. If the tire is designed for a better grip on its edges, then it would be more appropriate for Yamaha, but if the tire is mainly aimed to provide a better grip on the lines, then this will win the Honda. Although the Bridgestone tires and tries to provide suitable for the widest possible range of driving style on some tracks to find a similar balance is impossible.

Solution of Yamaha motorcycle construct which provides high speed cornering, on the one hand, it is advantageous. In theory, the maintenance of high speed cornering can be strong on almost every track, because the lost speed at the braking should be re-produced in acceleration. Minimizing the loss of speed in turns means that the bike can come out of the turn faster, requiring it to less stress on the engine and using less fuel. However, Yamaha spent a lot of time focusing on speed in the turns, but completely forgetting about speed on the straights, where, in comparison with Honda motorcycles they lose too much. That is their main weakness.

After the race in Barcelona, Cal Crutchlow told reporters, what are the advantages and disadvantages of a Yamaha motorcycle he sees.

Cal Crutchlow:

"When you compete with other drivers, the main problem lies in the fact that you are in the air bag of the pilot, who has a very different trajectory, unlike you, and you become dependent on it. Rival brakes a little later or a little before you, and you have to adjust to his style. "

The only way to avoid this, it's to take the lead from the start, says Cal.

"You can see that Lorenzo is almost never go after someone from behind and always tries to come forward. All this is due to a weakness in the Yamaha. Lorenzo really has only one unique way to win - to get ahead from the first meters. Yamaha can not make a profit from going ahead motorcycle. Then she loses at least at the exit of the turn. In Qatar, when I sat down on the tail of the front running Honda, it was very hard and extremely uncomfortable. If you are ahead of the opponent, as Jorge in the last two races, and you have in front of the net track, you run your own race and then can go a lot faster. "

But all the above is not to say that Yamaha has only one unique driving style.

"If you look at my driving style, and the style of Valentino Rossi, you may find they have a lot of similarities, but they are very different from the style of Lorenzo. You might think that there is one only Yamaha driving style, but Jorge example, it is clear that there are other options, and each is good in its own way. "

Philosophy Yamaha team does not promise anything good in the long run. In Qatar, Valentino Rossi was able to pass Marc Marquez and successfully fend off his attacks, but then it was only the first race of the young Spaniard in the class of MotoGP. In Jerez, Marquez showed how easy it is to compensate for the error, using the power of the engine Honda. Mark missed three times at the hairpin after the straight, and three times again returned to Jorge Lorenzo for a few turns. In part, this merits Honda, although it is also involved here and the talent Marc Marquez, which allows him to quickly move away from mistakes. At Yamaha same situation is quite different. In Qatar, Valentino Rossi made a mistake at the first corner and in order to return to a high rate, it took him a decent amount of laps.

Although Yamaha and is able to pass very quickly circles, their dependence on the speed in turns means that Jorge Lorenzo has come forward from the start of the race. If Dani Pedrosa and Marc Márquez will be able to get ahead of him, to return the position of Jorge will be very hard. Lorenzo will be turning out in turn rest on the opponent and lose by leaving it. Despite the fact that according to the Yamaha team is working hard on his engine, he still remains the weakest point of the motorcycle, as compared to Honda. Ultimately, all this can end an unprecedented leadership Honda, if the Japanese team did not take any action.
