This practice is typical for motorcycles from Bologna - Ducati sport bikes ever produced versions with engines of average volume. 748 looked like a 916, 848 - as 1098, and now the 899 will mimic 1199.
Not visible on the image frame, so that, apparently, the engine as well as in 1199 is used as a carrier element - as a front subframe will operate the air filter housing, and the rear sub-frame is secured to a vertical cylinder. Will the camshaft drive chain 899 is Panigale, or will be used for the traditional Ducati timing belt? It's not clear.
